Lilian grew up in Cuba and immigrated with her family to the United States when she was very young. She has traveled extensively and has lived in different places. Because she spoke no English when she came to this country, she knows first hand the challenges of learning another language. She uses her experience to help others …
“My passion is to share my experiences and show others that they can do it too. Learning another language opens the doors to other cultures…”
After completing a 20 year career with the U.S. Federal Government, Lilian became more interested in helping newcomers and immigrants assimilate the new language and culture. She joined a Social Work agency, where she worked as a volunteer and later became a case worker, working first hand with immigrants from all corners of the world. She began to teach English to others. After moving back to Florida a few years ago, she realized the need for better communication between Southwest Florida businesses with Hispanics and Latin America countries. She started the “School of Latin Arts” , teaching Spanish to businessmen, private organizations and individuals and her number of students continues to grow.
To further her studies, Lilian traveled to Mexico to be certified. She was awarded the D.E.L.E. designation in Spanish at “Universidad Internacional” in Cuernavaca and maintains close ties with the organization, which offers intensive Spanish courses and “total immersion” programs. She currently is an agent for the University and makes arrangements for students who like to participate in those programs.
“I have seen a great increase in the interest to know Spanish among the Southwest Florida businesses and the population in general…” she says.
